Why shouldn’t Singaporeans be prepared for natural disasters?
Written by ED on August 12, 2008 – 10:28 pm - Posted in Singapore | 16 Comments »Some of us probably would have forgotten about the “water spout” that was spinning right at our doorsteps last year, off East Coast Park. Or maybe, we do but we didn’t really think much of it these days. Why not, when it was our own agencies telling us not to worry about it. Thanks to internet these days, there isn’t really anything that you can’t find. Why did I suddenly talk about this incident that happened last year?
Just in case you’re not a fan of AXN like myself, Singapore’s “water spout” in 2007 has been featured in one of AXN’s premier show - World’s Most Amazing Videos (Season 4). The footage was one that Singaporeans have never seen on any of our media coverage. My jaws dropped when I saw the footage that was featured, and question marks came up in my head as to why our Government agencies wasn’t upfront with the severity of the phenomenon.
The Spirit of Olympics - Gone With The Wind
Written by ED on August 12, 2008 – 5:20 am - Posted in Sports & Fitness, World | 12 Comments »I was reading with interest about a recent post DK put up, regarding why the practice of releasing white doves (or pigeons if you prefer) had been stopped in recent years of Olympic Games. Right, the doves were burnt alive. Cruelty we say, but if we were to reflect on all the military conflicts that had taken place and is still going on now, the burnt doves seemed appropriate to mark the death of mankind all over the world.
DK used a video from a previous Olympic Games. That’s even more appropriate. This year, war broke out once again with Russia sending military attacks on Georgia. Obviously, the President of Georgia had little choice but to declare a state of emergency. Ironic, isn’t it? Maybe some of us are being too idealistic. Instead of reaching out with good news of medal winners, part of our news feeds are occupied with headlines informing us of people dying in these conflicts.
Friends, are you ready?
Written by ED on August 10, 2008 – 8:23 am - Posted in Friends | 6 Comments »I am not quite sure what has gone wrong with us, but I have this hidden disappointment inside my heart which I did not really talk much about. Perhaps I couldn’t think of what words I could use or how should I embark on this topic, but it doesn’t feel good when I watch friends turned into enemies with each other. If that’s how fragile the connection between people can be, then let’s just quit calling each other “friends”.
Well, I am not about to pull my gun on anybody. If you think that is going towards the direction of flaming, unfortunately that’s not going to happen. For a long time, I have always said that this blog is meant for my own enrichment. While I was reading some blogs of friends over an hour ago, I wondered if I could take on a topic that can also help others to improve themselves.
Still, I do not know how to kickstart this. I can’t pinpoint exactly if things have indeed degraded beyond repair. Or maybe, I have gotten to know a much wider circle of people and hence, I get to see a lot more things. Is it a matter of increase or an issue of frequency? I really don’t know.
Is the sky crying for Singapore?
Written by ED on August 10, 2008 – 3:52 am - Posted in Singapore, Sports & Fitness | 14 Comments »As all of us knew by now, it was drizzling as Singapore celebrated her 43rd birthday. I can’t remember when it was the last time it actually rained on a National Day’s Parade. It must have been quite a long time. For some, it was a cooling weather but on another hand, the rain didn’t really cool some Singaporeans like myself. That’s precisely why I am asking, if the sky is crying for Singapore.
Some of you would have noticed the Youtube video that had been circulating around. In the video, Singapore’s Table Tennis hopeful, Lee Jia Wei, was seen allowing the national flag to be dragged along the ground as she led the Singapore contingent during the Olympic Games opening ceremony. Much like some fellow Singaporeans who were outraged, I am equally upset why such an incident happened in the first place.
Some Singaporeans just don’t get it…
